She has 25 years experience in the collection of pulmonary function and medical screening data for the Harvard School of Public Health, and Occupational Health doctors in the Boston area. She received training in occupational health at the Harvard School of Public Health as a research associate.

Steven B. Bloom, MS (Course Director)
Director of Environmental Affairs at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Manages occupational safety and health as well as environmental regulatory compliance for this large Harvard-affiliated academic medical center. Steve has over 30 years experience in environmental, respiratory, and air quality issues. His specialty areas include microbiological agents, airborne particulates, and non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation, and he has co-authored many publications on toxicology, lung function, and healthcare safety compliance. Steve received his graduate training in pulmonary physiology at the Harvard School of Public Health.

Marcia Chertok
Research Specialist, Environmental and Occupational Medicine and Epidemiology (EOME) program at the Harvard School of Public Health. Marcia is a course instructor in the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Spirometry training course 073. She has 30 years of experience in the collection and quality control of occupational and environmental screening data. She received training in occupational health at the Harvard School of Public Health as a research associate, and has produced training tapes on the administration of respiratory disease questionnaires for the American Thoracic Society (ATS).

David Christiani, MD, MSS, MSPH (Course Advisor)
Professor of Occupational Medicine and Epidemiology and Director of Environmental and Occupational Medicine and Epidemiology (EOME) program at the Harvard School of Public Health. Directs both the Center for Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the Kindred Hospital Northeast—Braintree, MA and the Occupational Medicine Section of the Pulmonary and Critical Care Unit of the Massachusetts General Hospital. Major research interests include occupational, environmental and molecular epidemiology. Has led efforts in the development and application of biomarkers, performed population studies of acute and chronic diseases, including lung, bladder, esophageal, and skin cancers, and investigated, from an environmental-and occupational-health perspective, tumors of the central nervous system, obstructive airway diseases, pneumoconiosis, and acute lung injury.

Industrial Hygiene and Safety Consultant. Board Certified in Occupational Health Nursing and in Occupational and Environmental Health. President, Massachusetts Association of Occupational Health Nurses, 2004-2007. Has 30 years experience in the nursing field, 22 of which are in the energy and utilities industry as a Consultant, a Utility Safety Manager and Occupational Health Nurse Manager. Established compliance controls and biological monitoring programs for asbestos, lead, silica, confined space safety, ergonomics management, scaffold safety, comprehensive health promotion and wellness for industry.

Dianne Plantamura, MSW, CSS
Executive Director of the New England College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (NECOEM). Dianne is a course instructor in the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Spirometry training course 073. She was Clinic Coordinator to the Harvard affiliated Occupational and Environmental Health Clinic at Kindred Hospital Northeast – Braintree, MA, 1987-2000. She received training in occupational health at the Harvard School of Public Health as a research associate and has published informational brochures about health and safety for artists.
